Richard Long
Richard joined the team in January of 2026 as an experienced Estate Administration lawyer licensed in both North and South Carolina. Having spent the previous three years at an established firm in the Triangle, Richard brings a deep familiarity with the area’s legal landscape and provid es steady, competent guidance. His primary goal is to ensure that every family feels their matter is in capable hands, working collaboratively with them to see every estate through to a successful conclusion.
Richard’s legal perspective is uniquely informed by his time as a Public Administrator for Union County. Managing high-stakes files that often lack traditional support structures, he developed a resourceful and resilient approach to estate administration that benefits his clients today. Further, having practiced alongside his father in a general practice in Monroe, Richard understands that being a truly effective attorney means being an active part of the community you serve—a philosophy that made him a natural fit for the team at Cary Estate Planning.
A native of Union County, Richard earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before spending six years in Washington, D.C. working in the nonprofit sector. This experience provided him with a broad perspective and a deep appreciation for the diverse needs of the individuals he represents. He later returned to North Carolina to attend the Campbell University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude and received the book award for the Community Legal Clinic.
Richard lives in the Triangle with his wife and daughters. On the weekends, you can often find them exploring the Downtown Cary Park, cheering on the Tar Heels, or enjoying a round of golf.
